Educators engage in professional learning.

As a member of the teaching profession I recognize the importance of being a life long learner. I love learning and it is one of the reasons I was drawn to this profession. During my time in the education program I had the opportunity to attend many workshops and guest presentations. I also attended the BCTF New Teacher’s Conference in the Spring of 2019 in Vernon, BC. School District 57 Prince George has also be gracious enough to allow student teachers to participate in their professional development days. There I was lucky enough to attend multiple workshops that ranged from learning about the history of the local Indigenous  community to learning about reconciliation in the classroom.

Something that I have been learning more about and incorporating into my teaching is the use of purposeful play. I am a huge advocate for play based learning as it helps students deepen their learning and make physical connections to what they are learning about. Play based learning also allows students to learn in ways that are meaningful to them and provides multiple access points for diverse learners. A professional development book that I have been reading is Katie White’s Unlocked: Assessment as the Key to Everyday Creativity in the Classroom. This book is about linking creativity and assessment in the classroom. This ties into my interests and passion for play in the classroom.
