Educators value the involvement and support of parents, guardians, families and communities in school.

Maintaining a positive relationship with parents, guardians, and families is incredibly important to me as a teacher. It is my hope that parents feel welcome to talk to me at any point during the school year to discuss their child and any concerns they may have. I also believe it is very important to include parents in student learning. During my long practicum students participated in a social studies unit on culture. Students learned about other cultures as well as their own culture. At the end of the unit I sent home a paper bag with a note on it for parents that explained what we had been learning about in class and if parents could help their child find an object at home that fit inside the paper bag that reminded the student of home or was related to their culture. This was a great way to include parents in their child’s learning as they could help them pick an object that was unique to them.

At the beginning of my practicum I sent out a parent letter introducing myself to families. I have attached this letter below as well as a more general letter that I have created that I would send out at the beginning of the year to my own class.
